I think I did once, but it was totally unplanned. My family and I went to a movie house. My parents wanted to see movie A. My siblings wanted to see movie B. I didn’t like either of the two movies, so I ended up watching movie C… alone. This happened circa 2001. Yes, I don’t really mind going to the movies, or eating in a restaurant, or shopping by myself. I do stuff by myself sometimes (or probably most of the time) and I actually (and weirdly) find it quite enjoyable.

what is the megapixel of your DSLR? Does it make sense to have a high megapixels in DSLR?
It has a 10.1 megapixel sensor. You need to consider a camera with a high megapixel count if you plan to have your photos printed in large format and if you think you’re going to do major cropping when you edit your photos.

do you edit your pictures? how do you do the dreamy effect?
Every now and then. I don’t have a specific way of achieving a particular look. Like, in what you call this “dreamy effect”, I have a number of ways to achieve that. It depends on the photo, you see. But what I mostly do is adjust the curves, hue & saturation and color balance.

how does the prints thing work?
The print give-away? It was something I did last Christmas (and February 2009). You can choose any photo you like and I’ll have it mailed to you.

It’s an entry-level camera so I think it’s good for beginners in photography. But I would also recommend checking out Canon Powershot G10 or G11. They’re not dSLR’s, but I’ve heard good reviews about them.

I honestly don’t know what tips to give you. I’ve been using my film camera for more than a year now and have finished at least 13 rolls of film but, honestly, half of my shots still come out really underexposed. I guess the best thing you can do if you’re planning to use a film camera is to read your camera manual first. That is the first thing I did and it certainly had helped me to understand & know the functions & capabilities of my camera. Also, like what I’ve been doing since day one, never stop experimenting and just keep shooting.

I know this must’ve been asked a hundred times before, but what`s your camera again? And how much did you buy it for? I`m planning to get a new cam this Christmas (my old one was a Casio Exilim with just 5MP) that I wish would be affordable and has 10MP+. I don`t know if I should get a DSLR cause I`m taking up Multimedia Arts or Advertising Arts in college though or if I should just stick with the digital cameras… Honestly I don`t know much about the differences.

I’m currently using a Canon EOS 1000D. Can’t remember the price I bought it for.

There are a lot of differences between a DSLR and a point & shoot camera. Try to read this article. It’s pretty informative.

I’m not really updated with camera prices, in total honesty. But you could check out Canon PowerShot G10 and G11. I think I’ve heard good reviews about those cameras.

Just one semester. Haha. During my first semester, I was, well, medyo nabarkada. Consequently, I incurred failing grades and my parents immediately sent me back home. I applied to one of the schools here and had no idea if I should stay with CS or what. I chose Psychology because I didn’t know what to take up. I didn’t like any course. I was extremely indecisive. After a few years studying Psychology, I guess I can say I’m enjoying it (even though my mind’s telling me I should’ve taken up Civil Engineering!). :D

So, anyway, you want to shift to Psych? It’s a good course, but so is CS. Ask yourself a hundred times if you really want to shift. Personally, unless you’re unhappy, I’d suggest you stay with your present course. But it’s still up to you. Good luck. :)

I bought it online (http://sulit.com.ph). The last time I went to Hidalgo, I saw a few stores selling Canon AE-1. I’m not certain how much they cost but you could ask when you go there. You can also try searching on eBay or Multiply. You might find some sellers there too. :)

What camera do you use? How do you make the vintage effect of colors?
I use different types of cameras but I shoot with Canon 1000D and Canon AE-1 most often.

Are you referring to the color effect in this photo? If so, then I did it by adjusting the color balance, levels, curves, hue & saturation, etc.

I have a 1000D as well if you may remember, and whenever I upload them and work on them in Photoshop, I always use the JPEG files. The reason being I don't know how to work with .RAW yet. Why is it better working with .RAW than JPEG? I've read a couple of articles on it but I never seem to understand. Thanks for your help.
Hi Abby! I haven't worked with RAW files yet. Well, I tried shooting in RAW before but I wasn't able to open the files because I didn't have the required software. Choosing which format is better to use depends on one's photographic needs & goals. RAW may be tedious and time-consuming, but one advantage is that it gives you complete control over your images. If memory capacity is not an issue to you and if you like spending hours twiddling your images, then RAW could be for you. On the other hand, if you don't have much time, if memory capacity is an issue, if you shoot hundreds of images at a time, then stick with JPEG. Ultimately, just ask yourself what your goals are as a photographer and decide from there. Hope I was able to help! Haha. Good luck. :)

Yes, sometimes. But I think it's just my camera trying to meter and auto-focus. To avoid that, you can try setting the focus and exposure first by pressing the shutter halfway down and fully pressing it when the right moment has come. :)

I'm not sure what tips to give you since I've only bought a film SLR once, but let me share with you why I bought one. The only reason I bought a film SLR is to have the exact same camera that was used in one of my favorite movies! I deeply fell in love with the movie that I went as far as finding out the model of the camera and scouring the web for sellers of the same model. I thought I was never going to find one since it was manufactured in the late '70's, but as luck would have it, I found a seller and immediately bought it. I only asked him if it was still working and in good condition and that was just it. Haha. So if you're going to buy one (I'm assuming it's your first time to buy an SLR and you're going to buy a used one) be extra careful and check the condition of the shutter and the lens. Look if there are any cracks or loose parts and see if it's clean inside. Also, you may ask if it has a manual or if it can be downloaded from the web 'cause you will need it to learn basically how to use it. Good luck! :)

What are the reasons you chose to purchase your Canon EOS 1000D? Kindly elaborate. (: Thanks in advance, been canvassing DLSR's lately.
Well, I chose it because I think it has all the features I will ever need. Some of the features of 450d which are not present in 1000d are, in my opinion, not really necessary for starters. I personally think that it's better to invest on good lenses. I'm pretty sure that I will change my camera body in the future, but lenses will stay longer. Hope I was able to help. Haha! Thank you for the kind words. :) There are a few things I'd like you to know: first, it doesn't matter if you get Canon or Nikon, both are very good brands and can give you superb images; second, it's not the camera that will give you good pictures, it is you. It is how you see and how you compose that is important; third, if you don't want to post-process your pictures, then don't. Remember that photoshop can't fix a bad picture. A bad picture is a bad picture; lastly, if you like to have fucking-amazing-extraordinary photographs, you have to realize that it all depends on you. Read about photography, practice, train your eyes, and shoot a lot. Good luck to you! :)

detective E, the headless hero: how did you get started taking photos?
My interest in photography started two years ago. I saw somebody's self-portraits in a social networking site and I was like -- I want my photos look like that too! Back then though, I was only taking photos of myself (with a cellphone camera) and just for the sake of having atypical photos I could show to my friends. Last year, I had the opportunity to dabble on it when my mom got herself a camera. I always borrowed it from her and took photos of everything around me that I fancied. I told myself that if I wanted to get serious in photography, then I must do research; so I read a lot of photography books and made research on the internet. Having my own camera this year made me even more excited about it. After winning a blog contest (photography category) few months ago, that is when I realized that maybe I had the potential to take good photographs. I have never stopped practicing and learning since then. Expressing myself through photography has always been fun.

It depends on what camera you are planning to buy. SLR cameras are much inexpensive compared to their digital counterpart. I think prices lie between the 2-10thou range(?). On the other hand, prices of digital cameras are on the 10-35thou range(?).

NAGMAMARUNONG: Hey you know what, my foreign lang teacher kept telling us that those dictionaries won't help you speak Spanish and that if you dont have someone to talk to, then it's useless. And besides, there are words/phrases that are used in different ways. It's really best to take classes coz you'll be taught how to converse, not just how to speak :)
The first time I studied Spanish, I was afraid that I would forget everything that I learned since I have no one to talk to. Owing to that, I wish I can go to Spain and converse with Spanish-speaking people. God knows how much I would love to take Spanish lessons! It's actually one of the electives on my course; but alas, it wouldn't be offered this school year. :(

-Stochastik is an alteration of the word STOCHASTIC. Unfortunately, the latter is unavailable so I opted for the former. Why stochastic? If you listen carefully to your Statistics teacher (but I doubt it since most teenagers nowadays are too preoccupied with a lot of mundane things-yes, I'm not generalizing), it means "having a random probability distribution or pattern that can be analyzed but not predicted precisely." Likewise, I see myself that way. :)

-I don't know how many times I've answered this question, but okay, since you're interested in photography, I'll answer it AGAIN. I'm using a digital camera (Olympus FE170); apparently, it's not a DSLR. It has a 6-megapixel sensor, but honestly, you don't need a 10-megapixel camera just so you can take great photos. A lot of people don't know that those high megapixels don't really matter unless you're planning to print on larger scales, i.e. posters and the like. In a nutshell, a good photograph lies on the eye of the photographer and not on the camera that he/she is using. Thanks for asking. Feel free to ask anytime, I'll try my best to answer them. :)
